DTF PRINTING
DTF: What is this t-shirt customization technique?
DTF printing is one of the most modern techniques currently available for customizing t-shirts and other garments. This method, which stands for Direct Transfer Film or Direct To Film, involves the direct transfer of the printed design from a special film. DTF printing is done by creating digital transfers using a printing plotter and a polyester film as the substrate. Once the print is complete and cured, it can be applied to cotton t-shirts, as well as those made of other materials, and in any color. It even allows for mixing with white ink, which offers excellent results (one of its most notable features).
DTF PRINTING: How is it done?
DTF printing is done with specialized printers that typically have two printheads. One is for the CMYK colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), and the other is for white, which is printed as a base over the CMYK color. The white ink backing also supports the polyamide or polyurethane powder, providing elasticity and vibrancy to the final result. The steps are as follows:
- Impression on the film.
- Conditioning the film and curing the ink until it cools.
- Cut the design, if necessary.
- Transferring the DTF print onto the garments using a heat transfer press, at an approximate temperature of 145 degrees and for 9-12 seconds.
It's important to note that the ink is applied dry and adheres to the garment thanks to the polyurethane or polyamide polymer adhesive found in these inks (DTF powder). Furthermore, the quality of these prints is photographic, surpassing that of other traditional transfers. With DTF printing, it is possible Print images larger than 1440 dots .
Advantages of DTF printing
Each textile customization technique, like the ones we work with in DTF24H printing has its advantages, making it stand out and become the most suitable option for certain types of fabrics and finishes. When discussing DTF printing and its advantages, it's important to know that this technique also has specific characteristics and its own advantages, which are quite significant. The most notable are the following:
- Speed and quality : The DTF technique doesn't require the screen-making process used by other transfer methods. This directly impacts the speed of the process without affecting quality. The colors are very vibrant and long-lasting through washing, making them ideal for workwear that is washed daily.
- For any garment : DTF printing can be applied to virtually any type of garment and on any color, from t-shirts —which are our specialty—, as well as caps, quilted jackets, socks, neck labels and much more.
- The fabric : Apart from its versatility in different garments, when talking about DTF, textile printing and applications you should know that this technique can be used on cotton, as well as its blends, even on polyester, nylon jackets, polyamide, lycra and many more fabrics.
- Printers with channels for white ink : As we indicated, this digital transfer allows the use of white ink, guaranteeing high quality and durable results on a wide variety of fabrics.
- Print elasticity : DTF printing is known for its quality and durability, but also for its elasticity. Designs created with this printing method maintain their integrity when stretched.
